SEA GAMES 2011: VIETNAM BEAT LAOS TO WIN GROUP B
LEBAK BULUS (17 Nov 2011) – Vietnam came back from a goal down to beat Laos 3-1 at the Lebak Bulus Stadium this afternoon to make sure that they finished the preliminary round of the men’s football event at the top of Group B – ahead of Myanmar.
At the end of the five matches in the group, both Vietnam and Myanmar are on the same 13 points although the former finished at the top due to better goal difference.
But this evening, Vietnam did not have the best of start when as early as the fourth minute, they fell behind when Keoviengpheth Lithideth picked up a cross from the left before blasting the ball past keeper Tran Buu Ngo to give Laos the surprise lead.
In the seventh minute, Khonekham had the chance to double Laos’ lead but he took too long for the finish while Vietnam replied through Le Van Thanh but his shot narrowly missed the intended target.
In the 16th minute, the Vietnamese were punished when they lost Nguyen Thanh Long Giang to a red card. But to be fair, Vietnam did not lose hope where they still maintained their composure to press the Laotian defence.
And just before the end of the first half, a one timer from Le Van Thang came off the crossbar for the score to stand at 1-0 to Laos’ advantage.
It was Laos who began stronger in the second half where after picking up a cross from the centre of the park, captain Lamnao Singto shot straight to Buu Ngoc instead.
That failure to take score gave Vietnam the confidence to push forward and in the 62ndminute, Hoang Dinh Tung gave Vietnam the all-important equalizer when he took advantage of a melee inside the Laos goal to stab the ball home. Seven minutes later, Laos fell further behind when Nguyen Van Quyet beat Laos keeper Sourasay Keosanvandeng for a 2-1 lead.
In the 77th minute, the frustration was obvious on Laos when they lost Lamnao to a red card for an altercation against Vietnam midfielder Chu Ngoc Anh. A missed penalty some ten minutes later did not prevent Vietnam from scoring their third goal in the game when Van Quyet beat the offside trap to beat Sourasay for the third time

MYANMAR LEAD GROUP B FOR NOW
LEBAK BULUS (15 Nov 2011) – Myanmar delivered what was expected of them this afternoon at the Lebak Bulus Stadium – scoring a close 1-0 win over Timor Leste to ensure that they took control of Group B at least for the next 48 hours.
With current group leaders Vietnam on the same ten points, there was a need for Myanmar to win the full points against Timor so as to give them the chance of finishing at the top of the group.
Vietnam still have match to play for where they will take on Laos in the final group game against Laos in two days.
With the game having no real consequence for Timor other than to salvage battered pride, the return of striker Ribeiro Murilo at least gave the team more presence upfront.
In the fifth minute, Murilo’s cross was perfectly connected by Diogo Rangel at the far post but the goal was called for offside. The game did not actually took after that as Myanmar were just passing the ball around and were not willing to commit too much.
It was not until the game reached the 34th minute mark that Myanmar finally made an impression when Mai Aih Naing cut in from the left to beat marker Emanuel Abel before shooting past Timor keeper Carlos Emerson at the near post for the lead.
Two minutes later, Alan Pinheiro worked hard to break through the Myanmar defence but his shot came off the crossbar instead. Not too long afterwards Murilo, who had just returned from suspension, picked up a yellow card for arguing with referee Fahad Alkassar from the UAE.
Min Min Thu then had a double chance but his first effort was closed down by a recovering defender while his second try came off the cross bar instead.
Diogo Rangel then finished the first half for Timor with a grounder which narrowly missed the upright.
The second half did not actually change the pace of the game although Myanmar did concede several free kicks at the edge of their box. The closest was a well taken shot from Pinheiro, but Myanmar Kyaw Zin Htet was just well placed.
Several minutes later, another attempt from Pinheiro went well wide.

AFC world cup 2014 Qualifying, Singapore Vs China
Only China enter this match with the dream of qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil still intact. Singapore ended any slim chance of progress with a 2-0 defeat to group leaders Jordan in Amman on Friday. But even China's hopes of clinching the runners-up slot in Group A remain bleak, with results elsewhere needed to go in their favour. Nevertheless, the match in itself should be a heated affair, with Singapore's sizeable Chinese migrant population expected to lend vocal support to the visitors.
Singapore's squad has been depleted with a number of key players involved in the concurrent staging of the 2011 South-East Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia. Hariss Harun, Safuwan Bahrudin and Izwan Mahbud, who all started the match in September, are part of the Singapore Under-23 team competing in the SEA Games.
China, meanwhile, will have to contend with the absence of Linpeng Zhang. The defender will be suspended after being shown a straight red card against Iraq in his previous match for bringing down Younis Mahmoud, who was through on goal.
