DOWN TO THE WIRE FOR MALAYSIA AND MYANMAR; ASEAN TEAMS CRASH IN GROUP F

YANGON (1 July 2012) – It will be down to the wire for Malaysia and hosts Myanmar as they chase down the only remaining spot from Group G to make the final round of the AFC Under-22 Asian Cup in 2013.
After four matches in Group G, Korea Republic are in the lead with ten points while hosts Myanmar are also on the same ten points. On third is Malaysia with nine points. Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and the Philippines are fourth, fifth and sixth respectively and where they are already out of contention.
In the decisive game in the group in two days, Korea Republic will take on Vietnam while Myanmar will play Malaysia. Only the top teams in the group at the end of the qualifying round will get tickets to the final draw of the tournament next year.

In Vientiane, all three ASEAN teams – hosts Laos, Thailand and Cambodia – have ruled themselves out of a place in the next round. With just one game left, DPR Korea and China are the frontrunners where they have confirmed their spots in the final round of the AFC U22 Asian Cup in 2013.
DPR Korea have picked up 12 points from four matches while China are on ten points from the same number of games played. They will decide in two days who will take the group.
