VIENTIANE, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia lost 0-3 to host Laos in the opening match of Asean University Games (AUG) at National Sports Complex Stadium here Tuesday.
The Laos goals were scored by Sitthideth Khanthavong (41st), Khouta Sivongthong (83rd) and Lembo Saysana in additional time.
With the win, Laos are through to the semi-final of the football competition.
Malaysia will play Singapore on Thursday for a place in the semi-final.
Universiti Malaysia coach Azman Eusoff told reporters he did not expect Malaysian to lose 0-3 to Laos.
"I admit there are weaknesses in defence and midfield. Our players found it difficult to penetrate the Laos defence.
"The loss is a big blow to us. Malaysia have no choice but to beat Singapore on Thursday," he added.
