The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) had been in discussions with Riedl since January and even announced on March 4 that a deal was reached with the Austrian, only to backtrack on that statement the following day.
However, new National Team Body (BTN) chief Iman Arief confirmed to the Jakarta Globe that Riedl has now finally agreed to coach the senior and under-23 national teams.
"We confirm that Alfred Riedl is the new head coach for the Indonesian national team," Iman said. "He will arrive in Jakarta this week, and the training camp will start as soon as he arrives."
The 60-year-old takes over senior team from Benny Dollo and the under-23s from Alberto Bica and boasts a wealth of experience in South East Asian football having led Vietnam to the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well guiding them to the quarter-finals of the 2007 Asian Cup.
Most recently, Riedl secured bronze for Laos at the 2009 SEA Games, the county's first podium finish in football.
