Burma’s Football Revolution?

It remains to be seen how much Burma has really opened up, and whether it will continue to do so. Elections have been held, Aung San Suu Kyi is free to travel and she’s now an elected member of parliament.

But as often happens, sport has been busy behind the scenes for some time. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. If North Korea can engage with the international community in the football realm, then Myanmar, still called Burma by the U.K. among other countries, certainly can.

Suu Kyi studied at Oxford and married a British subject, and football in the country has been under some recent Brit influence.

Peter Butler, an Englishman who used to play for West Ham United in the English Premier League, spent part of the 2010 season coaching Yangon United.

Indonesian National Football Team to Play Goodwill Game in Palestine

Magelang. Indonesia will send its national team to Palestine to take part in a football tournament, according to Bernhard Limbong, an Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) executive committee member and national team supervisor.

“This is the first football tournament held in Palestine, and to respect the invitation, the national team will go,” Limbong said Thursday after seeing a try-out match between the national team and the PPSM Kartika Nusantara at Madya Stadium.

Crown, Dordoi in finals
Monday, 07 May 2012 23:56
Phnom Penh: Hosts Phnom Penh Crown FC and Dordoi Dyanamo both qualified for the September finals of the AFC President’s Cup after registering victories on Monday in the Group B qualifiers in the National Olympic Stadium of Phnom Penh.

Crown edged 2007 finalists Nepal Police Club 1-0 while Dordoi went top of the table after thrashing debutants Yeedzin FC of Bhutan 11-2.

In a hard fought match, the hosts had to rely on Borey Khim 21st minute solitary goal to send Nepal Police out of the competition while Murzaev Maksim scored five goals alone as President’s Cup regulars Dordoi Dynamo once again booked a place for the finals.

Second half substitute Anderson William Franco De Souza scored a brace alongside Askarov Davron and Tetteh  David to complete the rout over the Bhutanese who will take on Nepal Police Club in an academic contest on Wednesday. Crown take on Dordoi on the same day to decide the group winners.
