Vilayout Sayyabounsou brought Lao fans to their feet by scoring the opening goal in the 32nd min, but celebrations were cut short when a late first-half equaliser from Mongolia's Tumenjargal Tsendenbal denied Laos what would have been three well deserved points at the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 Group C Qualifiers.
The young Laotians pressed ahead in the 2nd half and had a handful of opportunities at goal but were unable to convert against the physically bigger Mongolians. Both teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
"The first match of the competition is the most important and since we only managed a draw, we must give our all and win the next 2 games," said Kokichi Kimura, Head Coach for the Lao National Team.

In an earlier game, Afghanistan's Balal Arezou scored the only goal of the match to give Afghanistan a 1-0 victory over the speedy Sri Lankan team.
The next match day on March 4 will see Afghanistan up against Mongolia at 4pm and Laos to play Sri Lanka at 7pm. Both games will be played at the National Stadium (KM16).
