VIENTIANE (19 Nov 2013) – The MNC Cup in Jakarta this week twill be the final test for Laos as they look to improve on their fortunes ahead of the SEA Games next month.
The Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) Cup 2013 will be held in Indonesia on 21-24 November at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
The Laos national Under-23 team will take on their counterparts from Indonesia, the Maldives and Papua New Guinea.
For the 27th SEA Games, Laos are in Group A against Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Brunei DS.

Qatar to host 8th West Asian Football Federation Championship

DOHA: Qatar will host the 8th WAFF (Men's) Championship from December 25 to January 7, 2014, officials from Qatar Football Association (QFA) and West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) announced here Thursday.

At their joint press conference held at QFA headquarters today, WAFF’s General Secretary Fadi Zuraikat and QFA General Secretary Saoud Abdulaziz Al Mohannadi signed an agreement here today that details QFA's role as the Local Organising Committee of the WAFF championship this year.

CEO of the Championship Saoud Al Mohannadi said, "We are very happy to announce the hosting of WAFF's 8th Championship for Men.

This championship is one of the most important events that the Qatar Football Association (QFA) will host this season.

"In co-ordination with the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), QFA has allocated the competition, training venues, and official hotels and is ready to host the championship."

"All preparations are coming to an end and everyone involved is vigorously working to showcase this championship in a successful manner."

"Hosting this significant event showcases QFA's vision to regularly conduct regional championships that endeavour to spur the local and regional football scene."

"QFA's vision is to constantly strive to host different championships ahead of 2022 World Cup."

"Hosting the 8th WAFF Championship is a great example to show that we are in line with our vision."

Commenting on the major event, QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani said, "We hope that all teams take advantage of this championship as they prepare for the Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers.

Hosting the eighth edition of the championship testifies to our remarkable relationship with the WAFF and expresses our support to the vision of WAFF President and FIFA (Asia) Vice-President HRH Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein who genuinely works for the growth and benefit of West Asian football.

The QFA will spare no effort to ensure that this championship is organized to the highest of standards, he added.

WAFF General Secretary Fadi Zuraikat said, "The organization of the 8th championship in Qatar is a quantum leap in the history of WAFF.

This edition of the championship attract great attention of the media, official and fans.

The future of this championship is bright and it is already one of the major events in the region.

The scheduled of championships was planned after a comprehensive study of all the continental and regional tournaments which will take place in 2014.

We decided to choose these dates since it is ideal for teams that are preparing for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifying matches, at the same time during this period, the domestic leagues are often suspended in the region, Zuraikat said.

The championship draw will be held November 11, he added.

Regarding WAFF's future vision, he said, "We are looking forward to AFC's recognition of AFC for all the four regional federations (WAFF, EAFF, SAFF, and ASEAN)."

"Each regional federation will look after the interests of its member associations, as well as reaching the phase where a number of regional federation's championships (Under 16, Women, Futsal) will be approved to be the qualifiers for the continental finals."

VIENTIANE (4 Oct 2013) – Despite suffering a string of defeats in their recent tour of Thailand, the coach of the Laos national Under-23 team Kokichi Kimura remained confident that the team can shape up in time for the SEA Games.
The Laos U23 played three friendlies last month in Thailand which resulted in identical 2-1 losses to both Suphanburi FC and Buriram FC before being thumped 5-2 by Chonburi FC in the third game.
“The players learned some good pointers,” said Kimura (pix). “It was a good experience playing against the big clubs from Thailand. All the players got the chance to see action which was important.
“We lost mostly through the set-pieces, so this is obviously one area which we need to work on.”
The SEA Games will be held in Myanmar on 11-22 December.

AFF U19: Cong Phuong Sends Vietnam Into Final

SURABAYA (20 Sept 2013) – Vietnam claimed their place in the final of the AFF Under-19 Championship after star striker Nguyen Cong Phuong struck the only goal against Laos at the Petrokimia Gresik Stadium this evening. In a closely contested battle which could have gone either way, Cong Phuong took his chances well to slot in the winner in the 75th minute.

Vietnam will face the winner of the other semifinal match between hosts Indonesia and Timor Leste at the Gelora Delta Stadium later tonight.

Laos, who started the game without their injured ace striker and livewire Lembo Saysana, had their chances but were unable to get their shots into goal. Laos coach Chandalaphone Liepvisay must have missed Lembo each time he watched his boys miss the target.

Vietnam, who are capable of playing far better as proven in their previous matches, had a slow start today, probably because they were a little nervous. But once they got over that, they began to launch some serious moves.

But it was not until the 75th minute that Vietnam finally broke through. Cong Phuong picked up a pass from Nguyen Van Toan in the centre, sped down the left and blasted home the winner.

Athough without Lembo leading the show, Laos forged a good attack in front and troubled the Vietnamese. Striker Phithack Kongmathilath  along with Soukchinda Natphasour were a constant bother to their rivals. They had attempts in the seventh, 13th and 18th minutes, but failed to convert.

In the 25th minute, Laos should have scored but Jo E Sandara’s header from a solid cross from Phithack was just off the mark. Two minutes later, Vietnam finally had their first crack to score. Nguyen Van Toan twisted and turned in the box and released unmarked Nguyen Tuan Anh on the right but he blew the shot.

Soon after Hoang Thanh Tung rounded the defence but watched in despair as his shot swept to the right.

In the 68th minute, referee Steve Asistido blew when Laos goalkeeper Soukthavy Soundala took too much time to kick the ball. Laos coach Chandalaphone contested the decision and was sent to the stands.

After the goal, Laos continued to pressure and launched numerous attacks but were unable to knock in the equaliser.

SURABAYA (13 Sept 2013) – Laos secured a third successive victory to become the first team through to the semi-finals of the AFF Under-19 Championship.

They came into the tournament as the underdogs but this evening, Laos tamed the young Lions 3-0 and will go into the last four as a strong candidate for the title.

Armisay Kettavong blasted a brace while the other goal was netted by the talented left-footed Phithack Kongmathilath. Phithack opened the scoring after only eight minutes when he slammed home a spectacular freekick.

Armisay then added the second in the 45th minute and finished off Singapore with a third in injury time.

“The players did really well, they are growing in confidence with every game. They must keep this up as we head into the next stage,” said coach Chandalaphone Liepvisay.

YANGON (12 Sept 2013) – There is no shame in defeat for the Indonesian women’s football team. In spite of the 2-1 loss they conceded in the second match day in Group B of the AFF Aya Bank Women’s Championship 2013, the Indonesian girls certainly showed that they have a lot of spunk.
The defeat was Indonesia’s second in as many matches and will certainly spell their exit from the competition even though they still have matches against Myanmar and then Japan.
“We were told that we will be taking part in this competition just a few days before our departure to Yangon,” said Abdul Sadat (left in lower pix), the team manager of Indonesia. “As you know, we are actually a Futsal team but in spite of the difficulties, I thought that we played quite well. The only thing is that my players can’t last the full 90 minutes but they gave their best and that was important.”

VN U19 Thrashed Laos 5:1

On 14/08 /2013
Laos U19 was thrashed by Vietnam U19 5:1 in a friendly match before joining the AFF 19 on September which will be kicking off in Indonesia.

Laos U19 had started well and did better in the 1st half which they scored first, but later Vietnam U 19 scored back before the end of 1st Half.

in the 2nd half, Vietname controlled the game and Laos's defense was broken which vietnam scored 4 goals and Full time, Vn U19 thrashed Laos U19 5:1.

the next match, Laos will play against, Huang an Yalai Club on 19 August.

Myanmar U19 Head to China for Weifang Cup

YANGON (4 July 2013) – The Myanmar Under-19 team will head to in Shandong Province in China at the end of the month to take part in the Weifang Cup.

The Weifang Cup will feature 12 teams including youth clubs from Portugal’s Porto, England’s Sunderland and Mexico’s Chivas, alongside reigning champion Villareal FC from Spain.

“We am very pleased to participate in this competition. Entering this competition gives our players international experience. We are going to compete at our best and the players have been training hard,” said Nyi Nyi Thet, the assistant coach of the Myanmar U19 team.

The team is being prepared for the AFF U19 Championships which will be held Surabaya, Indonesia on 9-22 September.
