SABAH: Kids taking part in the AFC U13 Festival of Football for Asean were able to showcase and assess their skills levels on Thursday.

The Skills Test phase marks the end of the educational part and the start of the Festival’s on-field activities.

Laos Head Coach Venkeot said: “The Skills Test is not only good for testing the level of basic skills for players but also gives coaches the opportunity to analyse a player’s strengths and weaknesses.”

The objectives of the Skills Test include: assessing basic skills, identify talented players, produce a database for future analysis, evaluate and improve coach training education and tab a player for future assessment.

The test involved analysing seven skills – juggling, short passing accuracy, short passing speed, long passing, running with the ball, dribbling and shooting.

The skills were overseen by coaches who took part in the first week’s ‘C’ Certificate course.

VIENTIANE (22 Feb 2009) – The road is tough for Laos and Timor Leste when they found themselves against difficult oppositions in the AFC U16 Championship 2010 qualifiers in October. The Laotians, who held Australia in the last qualifiers in 2006, will once again cross swords against the side from Down Under where they will also have Malaysia for company in Group H. With just three teams in the group, only the side which emerged at the top of the round of matches will qualify for the main draw. On the other hand Timor Leste will be up against two-time winners China alongside Hong Kong and Macau with Singapore and Guam completing the Group F line up. Thailand, the only ASEAN member to have won the AFC U16 crown will be against Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and the two Koreas in Group G. Indonesia and Philippines will have to be at their best against a determined Japanese side eager for their AFC U16 title where they will also do battle against Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh in Group E of the qualifiers. Only the group winner and runner-up of each of the seven six-team groups as well as the best third-place side overall will advance to the 2010 AFC U16 Championship finals. LAO U15 Won- runner-up in Japan

In the 1st-6th of June,Lao U15 has invited to the friendly matches with other Mekong commitee's members, Thailand, vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia to participate the friendly game under the culture exchange project between Japan and Mekong committee members. Lao U15 played very well and 1st match beaten Myanmar 2:1, Lost vietnam 0:1, beaten Cambodia 3:0,lost Japan 0:2 and the last match beaten thailand 2:1 and won the runner-up in Japan, the Japan football federation has given Lao compliments that Lao boys play very good.

Vietnam, Indonesia to co-host 2010 regional football cup
The Asean Football Federation (AFF) on April 20 selected Vietnam and Indonesia to co-host the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, while Malaysia was named the stand-by venue for the regional championships.

Eight teams, including defending champions Vietnam, will compete in the tournament during December 2010.
As in recent years, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore will not play the qualifying round. The other two teams will be the qualifier survivors. The qualifying round is scheduled to take place in Laos and three teams from Laos, Cambodia and the Philippines will take part.
In a related development, during a recent meeting, Australia submitted to the AFF an application form to become a member. The regional football governing body has not approved it yet.
Also on April 20, the Football Association of Malaysia appointed national Under 23 coach K. Rajagobal as national football coach as the country desperately tries to revive its flagging fortunes on the field, Malaysia’s New Straits Times paper reported
Malaysia sacked B. Sathianathan as coach in February, less than two weeks after the team lost to the United Arab Emirates in 2011 Asian Cup qualifying. Malaysia were also soundly beaten by the UAE on January 21, going down 5-0, and in December they crashed out of the Southeast Asia AFF Suzuki Cup in the group stages.
