ASEAN Set for Four Places in AFC Futsal Championship 2014

ASEAN Set for Four Places in AFC Futsal Championship 2014

ASEAN Set for Four Places in AFC Futsal Championship 2014
DILI (31 May 2013) – Following the confirmation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today that the AFF Futsal Championship in October will serve as the ASEAN zone’s qualifying competition, there will be up to four places for grabs for teams in the region.
The city of Bangkok will be hosting the AFF Futsal Championship on 19-27 October with ten teams taking part.
With Thailand – a regular at the FIFA World Cup – having won the AFF Futsal Championship for a record eight times (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012), it is expected that it will be another victorious campaign for the homesters.
This means that three other teams from ASEAN will get the chance to play at the continental level with the likes of Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam and Malaysia as among the best bet for the remaining slots.

Thousands of kids take part in Indian festivals

New Delhi: Indian football set a major milestone as nearly 3,000 children took part in 40 football festivals nationwide in celebrating the AFC Grassroots Year 2013 and Grassroots Day which fell on 15 May.
The concurrently held festivals were a huge success during the celebration of grassroots football which is also ongoing in other Member Associations across the continent.

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das was pleased with the outcome of the festivals, saying: “As part of the AIFF’s continued focus on grassroots development, we have conducted 40 grassroots festivals across the country with the help of our state FAs. We believe that a robust grassroots programme is imperative for the development of football.”

AIFF Technical Director Robert Baan added his comments: “AIFF has started to organise one of the most successful activities in football, the implementation of grassroots football in most of our football states. Within 10 years from now India will produce the new Sneijders, van Persis or Robbens.”

AIFF Director of Coach Education Scott O’Donnell gave his comments on the significance of the grassroots game: “It is great to see so many grassroots festivals taking place to help celebrate the AFC Grassroots Year. Grassroots football is an essential part of the development of football in India and I hope this is just the start of bigger and better things for us.”

AIFF Development Manager (Grassroots) Suvrat Thatte said: “The success of the festivals is a great achievement and I would like to thank all the grassroots leaders and state associations for actively participating to make the event a success.”

The festivals were held in the following states: Jammu and Kashmir (one festival), Chandigarh (nine festivals), Gurgaon in Haryana (one festival), Delhi NCR (one festival), Gujrat (one festival) Maharashtra (nine festivals), Goa (one festival), Karnataka (one festival) Tamil Nadu (one festival), Orissa (one festival), Sikkim (two festivals), Mizoram (seven festivals), Kerala (four festivals) and West Bengal (one festival).

Singapore names German to coach National team.

AFP
Wednesday, May 15, 2013
SINGAPORE - Singapore on Wednesday named Bernd Stange of Germany as head coach of the national team, replacing Serbian Radojko Avramovic, who led the city-state to three Southeast Asian championships.

Sixty-five-year-old Stange's career includes leading Belarus during the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying campaign where they defeated France in an away qualifier.

Under his watch, Belarus saw victory over the Netherlands and draws against traditional football powerhouses Germany and Argentina.

The country saw its FIFA ranking rise to 36 in 2011, from 90th place in 2008.

"The post of National Team Head Coach is always a challenging one for any coach - more so in a country like Singapore where football is the number one sport and whose national team are now champions of the region," said Stange, who also coached Iraq and the former East Germany.

"I am deeply honoured to have been appointed from a pool of more than 100 qualified candidates."

President of the Football Association of Singapore, Zainudin Nordin, described Stange as "one of the most respected coaches in Europe today".

He said the German "brings with him a wealth of international experience, ability and track record of building and managing successful teams despite the constraints".

Stange replaces Avramovic, who stepped down last year after leading Singapore to three championships in the Suzuki Cup, a biennial event organised by the ASEAN Football Federation.

Singapore is ranked 165 in the world by FIFA.

Asean to bid for 2034 World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- Asean will bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup said Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Deputy President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Tengku Abdullah who is also a member of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) said he was asked to chair a committee at the Asean level for the 2034 World Cup bidding process.

He said the decision was based on a consensus by Sports Ministers of Asean countries and the committee would convene a meeting with representatives from Asean countries on June 19.

"The proposal and draft are ready but we will look at other details before announcing the details of the meeting because 2034 is still a long way to go.

"I spoke to FIFA President Sepp Blatter regarding the bidding process and received feedback that the bidding will start eight years before the actual tournament," he told reporters after launching the FAM-FRENZ Asia Cup Under-15 competition at Wisma FAM, here, today.

Tengku Abdullah hoped Malaysia would be able to mould a world class team to prepare for the challenges ahead through a National agenda which will include the setting up of more clubs in the country.

Brazil will host the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the FAM-FRENZ Asia Cup which offers US$50,000 (RM155,000) and held from May 25 to Sept 8, will feature 12 teams from 11 Asean countries.

Matches would be played on a home and away basis.

The results of Lao premier league last weekend.

as I can see from the level of teams in the Lao premier league, the weak teams such as Eastern stars, Friend Development Fc, their levels are totally different with the big clubs as SHB champasak or HA-attapeu or Yotha Fc which these teams have hired many good players from the country and aboard. I have seen many results of leagues around the world and the leagues around the ASEAN or Asia.  the weak  team sometimes lose about 5-6 goals, but not 9 or 10 goals in a game. as the result, I can say that, the level of  Laos football development  is still different with others. Laos has a few good players in the National team who those hired by the big club. so what about the small Club that they dont have money to buy the good players?  the small club they will lose the dozen goals in a game.

Last weekended Results:

Laolanxang Fc: 0:3 Police Fc

Ha-attapeu  14: 0  Friend development Fc

Yotha Fc  9:0  Eastern stars Fc

Football: Blatter calls for more Asian teams at World Cup

FIFA president Sepp Blatter called on Friday for more berths for Asian teams at future editions of the World Cup and said the issue would be addressed at a meeting later this month.
Blatter said FIFA should allow more Asian teams at the expense of European andSouth American teams, stressing that Asiaprovides 50 percent of the body's revenues with Europe contributing less than 20 percent.
"We have the right and we have the obligation and the responsibility to bring this matter to discussion. We have to do that," he said, referring to FIFA's May 30-31 congress in Mauritius.
Asia currently has four automatic spots at the World Cup, with another available if an Asian team wins an intercontinental play-off. Europe has 13 places out of the total of 32.
A reduction in the number of European places would be seen as a slight to Michel Platini, the head of European football body UEFA, who is expected to bid for the FIFA presidency in 2015.
Newly elected Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa also said "Asia deserves more", pointing to international successes such as South Korea's bronze medal at last year's Olympics.

Minnows Buriram make history for Thailand

Unheralded Buriram United made history as the first Thai team to reach the AFC Champions League last 16 after a thrilling night's action on Wednesday.
The club from provincial Thailand missed a first-half penalty but then twice came back from a goal down -- within two minutes each time -- to snatch a 2-2 draw with Korean champions FC Seoul.
The result was enough to take Buriram through behind Group E winners Seoul after Japan's Vegalta Sendai, their main rivals for the second qualifying spot, went down 2-1 to Jiangsu Sainty.
Buriram and Sendai went into their final group games with identical records, meaning another matching result on Wednesday could have seen their fates decided by a tally of yellow and red cards or even a special lottery.
At the World Cup Stadium in Seoul, Carmelo Gonzalez should have put Buriram in front from the penalty spot before half-time, but goalkeeper Yu Sang-Hun dived low and to his right to turn the shot around the post.
Nine minutes after the break, the hosts carved open Buriram for the opener with a move that criss-crossed the pitch and was finished sweetly by Jung Seung-Yong, arriving late in the box.
But the lead was short-lived. In less than two minutes, a shot from Gonzalez was laid off by Kai Hirano for Ekkachai Samre, who revived Buriram's hopes by putting them level.
Another quickfire exchange of goals, in the 74th and 75th minutes, made it 2-2. Kim Hyun-Sung's header from a set-piece was followed by a raking free-kick from Buriram's Theerathon Bunmathan which crept in untouched.
In Sendai, Naoki Sugai's opener for the hosts was cancelled out by Liu Jianye in the first half, but Hamdi Salihi popped up on 62 minutes to give Jiangsu a 2-1 lead.
However, Jiangsu needed to beat Vegalta by six goals to qualify, a result which never seemed likely. With no further scores both teams missed the cut -- news which was greeted with wild celebrations by Buriram's fans in Seoul.
Meanwhile in Group F, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors edged fellow former champions Urawa Red Diamonds for a place in the the knock-outs when they drew 0-0 with China's Guangzhou Evergrande.
The scoreless draw in Guangzhou was enough to put the 2006 champions through on goal difference, despite Urawa's 1-0 win over Thailand's Muangthong United. Guangzhou, coached by Italy's Marcello Lippi, finished top.
