Laos U 16 learn late, says the Laos coach
Asian Football Conf.: Tehran (Sept. 26, 2012) - Laos coach Han Hyong-il praised his boys’ overall controlled football in their famous 2-1 win over Yemen on Wednesday.
Already out of the contention from the knock-out stages, Laos also dumped Yemen out with their first win after the tournament became AFC U-16 Championship from 2008.
An own goal from Yemen’s Ala Addin put Laos on 1-0 lead in the 12th minute but Mohammed Al Dahi brought the match at level for Yemen just before the break. Striker Kettavong Armisay scored the winner for Laos in the 69th minute.
“We are still sad of what happened against Kuwait,” Hyong-il recalled their match against Kuwait in which they failed to hold on to two-goal lead and succumbed to a late winner from Kuwait.
“But those two matches earlier taught our boys to remain mentally strong and today you can see they were composed and played brilliantly to win the match comfortably,” he said.
“Now it’s time for the Laos Football Federation to groom these guys for the U-19 level and then think about stepping in the national team,” he said.
Yemen coach Amin Al Sunami cited players’ nervousness at the big occasion as the reason for defeat.
“We gave two gifts to Laos and they wholeheartedly took those,” he said sarcastically. “We were never at our best today and probably it’s because we had purpose in the match unlike Laos who did not have anything to lose, there were clear lack of concentration in our camp,” he said.
“At the moment I don’t know what’s up there for these kids but there are few talented players in the squad and they could be good professional footballer in future,” a visibly dejected Al Sunami said.
Iran topped Group A while Kuwait finished runners-up with Laos and Yemen packing bags early.

Ticket for suzuki cup 2012 Qualifying round go on sale
YANGON (25 Sept 2012) – Tickets for the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki 2012 will go on sale this week. Hosts Myanmar will be hosting the qualifiers this year where they will be up against well-prepared sides from Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and Timor Leste.
With only the top two teams at the end of the round robin matches making it to the final round in November, the competition slated for 5-13 October will be close indeed.
Tickets have been priced at MMK3000 (USD3.50) for special seats while ordinary seats cost MMK1000 (USD 1.15) using a digital ticketing system produced by My Asia Ticket company limited. Ticket sales will be limited to four tickets per person.
“We are selling around 30,000 tickets for each match. There may be some unfamiliarity with a digital ticketing system, but we will try and I hope the system will be successful here,” said Choakchai Eaimrittikrai, assistant ticketing manager of the Malaysian-based My Asia Ticket.

FIFA removes Azkals vs Cambodia match from official fixtures
After the Philippines’ match with Laos was removed from the FIFA official list of fixtures after the latter used an unsanctioned referee, the Azkals’ match with Cambodia has now also been removed from FIFA’s website as well.
The move reportedly came after Cambodia made seven substitutions in the match, while the maximum number of substitutions allowed in a game was affixed to six in 2004. After reviewing the incident, FIFA has taken the step of cancelling the game from the official fixtures.
Game officials did not keep track of the number of substitutions the Cambodian side made. As the game is no longer considered a FIFA International Friendly match, it means that both countries will lose the few ranking points they picked up for the draw.
While this won’t change the position of the Azkals so much compared to other countries, it does raise questions of professionalism with both Laos and Cambodia now causing FIFA to step in and degrade the game from a FIFA international match to a simple exhibition game.
FIFA ranks countries based on their performance in the last four years, taking all their points from the current year, 50% of the last year’s, 30% of the points won during the year before, and 20% of the year before that. The Philippines currently has 167 points behind Leichenstein, Syria, and Vietnam, with only one point separating the Azkals from Leichenstein, three from Syria, and sixteen behind Vietnam.
Fortunately for the Azkals, the 2-1 victory against Singapore still counts in the FIFA Rankings. Currently, FIFA Rankings work in a way that a win could add 11 points to the Azkals’ score to take them to 178 points.
At the moment, that would see them rise to 147th in the world, higher than they’ve been before, as the Azkals’ highest ever position is 148th, achieved from April to May earlier this year. However, the Azkals need a good showing in the Philippine Football Peace Cup to maintain that score and gain further ground on their neighbors on and off the pitch. - RAF, GMA News

Thailand won Laos in the 2nd half
Laos, whose draw with Thailand at the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup was instrumental in denying the three-time champions a place in the knock-out stages, came within five minutes of registering another shock result on Wednesday before a Teerathon Bunmathan penalty gave the home side a face-saving 2-1 victory.
Thailand, missing a string of regulars through injury and club commitments, failed to find any rhythm in the opening 45 minutes and struggled to contain a Laos side who looked sharp and full of confidence after their 2-1 victory over the Philippines on Monday.
Star striker Teerasil Dangda and midfielders Datsakorn Thonglao and Suchao Nutnam were ruled out of Thailand’s first full international since February along with several players from Chonburi and Bangkok Glass, who played a Thai League Cup match on Tuesday.
Thai-American midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong, who had been expected to make his debut after impressive displays for Buriram United, was forced to sit out the match after taking ill earlier in the week.
The visitors deservedly took the lead in the eighth minute although there was a slice of luck to their goal.
Sopha Saysana, who plays for Nong Khai in a regional league in Thailand, struck a speculative left foot shot from just outside the box which Thai keeper Kawin Tammasatchanan let slip through his hands.
The striker is making a habit of scoring against Thailand having hit the winner in the AFC U-22 Asian Cup qualifier in June.
Laos also slammed the bar in the dying embers of a first half which saw them dominate possession.
Thai coach Winfried Schafer adopted Plan B for the second half and the replacements changed the tenor of the game, Thailand surging forward and limiting Laos to sporadic counter attacks.
Surachart Sareepim, a big, bustling striker who plays for Insee Police United in the Thai Premier League, made an instant impact on the game, scoring the equaliser in the 70th minute just after coming on.
He also proved a handful at set pieces and won Thailand’s penalty in the 85th minute after a Laos defender tugged his jersey at a corner.
Laos will meet hosts Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia and Timor Leste in the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifying competition in October.
Co-hosts Thailand play 2008 champions Vietnam, the Philippines and the top team from the qualifiers in Group A in November.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2012
VIENTIANE (10 Sept 2012) – Laos will begin their preparation for the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 by taking on the Philippines tonight in a friendly at the National Stadium (pix).
The Philippines are fresh from their 2-0 win over Singapore a few days earlier and also their scoreless draw against Cambodia prior to that.
“Putting it into context, these matches are still part of the AFF Suzuki Cup preparations, but winning will surely send a message (to the rest of Southeast Asia),” said Dan Palami, the team manager of the Philippines.
In the meantime, Myanmar will play Singapore tomorrow night at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon.
The Myanmar National League (MNL) 2012 had just ended on the weekend and as hosts Myanmar will be eager to put up a good showing in the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup next month.
Other than the match against Singapore tomorrow, Myanmar will also be heading to Japan in the middle of the month for a ten-day training spell.
For Singapore, they will be looking to put their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup back on track after losing 2-0 to the Philippines in their last friendly match.
