U-League To Complement Lao National League

VIENTIANE (25 August 2012) – The recently launched Lao University Football League has been highlighted to complement the needs of the Lao National League as the country look further unearth new talents for the national side.
At the launching that was attended by Dr Phankham Viphavanh, the Laos Minister of Education and Sports and Saithong Keoduangdy, the Vice Mayor of Vientiane, it was announced that 16 colleges from around the country will be taking part.
“The U-League aims to develop playing skill and foster friendly competition between students from the various government and private sector teams,” said Somphet Vatthanasin, the chairman of the competition organising committee.
“It is hope that the U-League will prove to be a good breeding ground for fresh new talent, and that those who excel will go on to play in the Lao League or even make the national squad.”
The U-League champions will receive 20 million kip (USD 2,500) in prize money, while the runners-up will get 15 million kip (USD 1,870) and third place earn 10 million kip (USD 1,250).
