(Dailyexpress):Malaysia whip Laos 4-1

 dailyexpress website:
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia scored an emphatic 4-1 victory over Laos in a Group B AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Wednesday night.
Malaysia's win coupled with Indonesia's 1-0 victory over Singapore in the earlier Group B match meant the race for a spot in the semifinals is still wide open with Indonesia topping the group on four points while Malaysia and Singapore both have 3 points each. Laos remain on 1 point.
Malaysia will play Indonesia on Dec 1.
Malaysia opened the scoring through Safiq Rahim in the 15th minute to ease Malaysian nerves in their must-win game Wednesday.
However, Laos punished some slack defending when Khonesavanh Sihavong equalised from a deflected shot in the 39th minute.
Both teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
A 3-goal blitz after the hour mark from Malaysia through hotshot Mohd Safee Mohd Sali in the 67th minute, Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor (75th min) and Mohd Khyrill Muhymeen Zambri (79th min) ensured Malaysia still remain in contention for a berth in the semis.
Earlier Indonesia defeated 10-man Singapore 1-0.
The Indonesians who had to come back from 1-2 down to salvage a 2-2 draw against lowly Laos in the very last minute on Saturday, were the early aggressors when referee Ali Hasan Ebrahim from Bahrain set the ball rolling.
Andik Vermansyah, known as 'Messi Indonesia' was the toast of his team as he lived up to expectation by scoring the winner in the 86th minute against a tiring Singapore side that had to play with a man less from the 65th minute.
Singapore had to play the match with 10-man from the 65th minute when Muhammad Irwan Shah Arismail was given the marching orders by Ali Hasan for a crude tackle on Andik.
Andik though had the last laugh when his free kick from 15 metres out caught Singapore custodian Mohamad Izwan Mahbud by surprise.
The result was welcomed by Malaysian fans as it gives Malaysia a fighting chance to make the semifinals.

Laos chief coach says before the Match against Malaysia

Kokichi Kimura – Laos chief coach

Tomorrow will be a difficult match because Malaysia will play a very fast game. The home team will be under pressure as they need to win badly. But I think that the advantage will still be with Malaysia as they will be playing at home.
For us, we have to play our normal game and not lose focus. We have to cope with the fast game where it is important for the players to play with the change in the tactics that will be implemented.
Certainly, we will be looking forward to the game against Malaysia as we look for our first win. It is not impossible. The best team will win.
There are a few players who are injured so we will see how they come up for the next training. We have no problem to replace any of the players because they are basically at the same level. So we are not too worried about having uncapable replacements.
If Malaysia play 100% tomorrow, we will have to play 120%.”

What Laos coach says after 2:2

The players put in a good performance today and they show a good understanding of our training and tactics but we had no luck today,” said the Japanese tactician.

“With more experience, maybe we could have won the game but I think that we showed good defence and a good counter-attack and we deserved to win.

“Maybe the sending-off (of Sopha Saysana) was unlucky but that is the referee’s decision.”

Last-gasp Indonesia salvage Laos draw

Indonesia needed an 89th-minute equaliser to avoid an embarassing defeat to Laos as both sides played out a 2-2 draw in their AFF Suzuki Cup Group B opener on Sunday.
By Gabriel Tan
The Laotians took the lead in the 30th minute when Khampheng Sayavutthi netted from the spot after Endra Prasetya had conceded a penalty and earned his marching orders, but they were soon down to ten man as well when Sopha Saysana received a controversial red.
Two minutes before the break, Indonesia full-back Raphael Maitimo ensured his first cap would be one to remember as he nodded home an equaliser, but Laos found themselves ahead once more in the 80th minute when Keoviengpheth Lithideth pounced on an error to score.
But as injury time beckoned, Laos keeper Sengphachan Bountisanh gifted a goal to Vendry Mofu when he pushed a shot straight into the path of his opponent for an easy put-away, costing his side what would have arguably their most famous victory ever.
And although they didn't leave the Bukit Jalil National Stadium emptyhanded, Merah Putih will undoubtedly feel they should have sealed all three points against a side who have only ever won two games in Southeast Asia's premier international competition.
Aware that is was vital for his side to get their campaign off to a winning start, especially with games against Singapore and Malaysia to come, Indonesia coach Nil Maizar opted for an extremely attacking lineup, naming Bambang Pamungkas and Irfan Bachdim up front, with Oktovianus Maniani and Andik Vermansyah supporting down the flanks.
Six minutes in, they had a good opportunity when Andik found space down the right and clipped a ball into the box straight onto the head of Bachdim, who was unable to keep his effort on target.
Four minutes later, the Merah Putih striker was guilty of being even more wasteful when was picked out once again by Andik and sent a blistering shot straight at Sengphacha, before smashing the rebound way over from eight yards out.
Laos were beginning to struggle containing the pint-sized Andik down the wing and he carved out another chance for his side in the 14th minute when left his opponent for dead and drilled a low cross to Pamungkas, who looked poised to open the scoring until his snapshot was bravely blocked Phattana Syvilay.
Despite their opponents' strong start, Laos were looking fairly comfortable in possession and created their first real chance in the 24th minute when Khampheng beat the offside trap and made his way into the box, before firing away a shot that was unconvincingly pushed wide by Endra.
Four minutes before the half-hour mark, the Indonesia custodian's evening got worse when he conceded a penalty and received his marching orders for bringing down Vilayout, who had found a gap in the opponents' defence and raced through on goal, allowing Khampheng to step up and fire his side into the lead from the spot.
However, Laos' numerical advantage then evaporated in the 33rd minute when Sopha was controversially handed a straight red for a fairly tame challenge on Andik, and straight away, Indonesia began to gain the ascendancy.
Three minutes before the break, Sengphachan had a close shave when he almost pushed a bullet header from Maitimo over himself and into his own net but was relieved to see the ball narrowly clear the bar.
Nonetheless, there was to no denying the Merah Putih debutant a minute later when Pamungkas met the resultant corner with a header that was deflected back off the woodwork, allowing Maitimo to pounce and nod the rebound into the far corner.
Nine minutes into the second half, a slip by Phattana allowed a right-wing cross to make its way to Pamungkas at the far post but his control let him down and by the time he got his shot away, a recovering defender had arrived to crowd him out.
While no one had given them any chance of getting anything out of this game ahead of kickoff, the Laotians continued to match their opponents and Wahyu Tri Nugroho, who had come on after Endra had been sent off, had to be alert in the 66th minute to push away a fierce shot from Khampheng at full stretch.
Three minutes later, Soukaphone Vongchiengkam broke down the right and held the ball up well before lifting it into the path of the rampaging Keongviengpheth, who brought the ball down and fired home, only for the strike to be correctly chalked off for handball.
Tonie Cusell then wasted an excellent chance at the other one when he was picked out inside the area by a speculative over-the-top pass with no opposition defender near him but let the ball slip under his foot, and could only scuff his effort wide by the name he had retrieved it.
Ten minutes from time, Laos found the goal they deserved for their endeavour when Keongviengpheth, who had been extremely lively after coming on, capitalised on a slip on the edge of area by an Indonesian player and latched onto the loose ball, before skipping past the despairing challenge of Novan Setya Sasongko and clinically firing into the back of the net.
Had they gone on to win the game, not many would have begrudged Laos the three points given the way they had taken the game to their more-illustrious opponents.
Alas, it was not to be as with a minute remaining, Sengphachan inexplicably spilled a shot from Andik right at Vendry's feet, allowing the Semen Padang man to tap home and steal a point for his side.
Indonesia: Endra Prasetya, Raphael Maitimo, Handi Ramdhan (Fachruddin Aryanto 71') , Wahyu Wijiastanto, Novan Setyo Sasongko, Andik Vermansyah, Tonnie Cusell, Muhammad Taufiq, Oktovianus Maniani (Wahyu Tri Nugroho 29'), Irfan Bachdim, Bambang Pamungkas (Vendry Mofu 65').
Laos: Sengphachan Bounthisanh, Phattana Syvilay, Ketsada Souksavanh, Khampoumy Hanevilay, Kovanh Namthavixay, Viengsavanh Sayyaboun (Kanlaya Sysomvang 88'), Soukaphone Vongchiengkam, Sopha Saysana, Visay Phaphouvanin (Khonesavanh Sihavong 73'), Vilayout Sayyabounsou (Keoviengpheht Lithideth 32'), Khampheng Sayavutthi.

Don’t take Laos lightly, Wan Jamak warns Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Former national coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan recalls the bitter lesson taught by ‘spoilers’ Laos 15 years ago.
Then, the national team were only one game away from the semi-finals (1997 Jakarta SEA Games) and their opponent’s were lowly Laos. Who would have expected Malaysia to suffer a humiliating 1-0 defeat?
A year earlier, Wan Jamak had led Malaysia to the final of the inaugural Asean Football Federation (AFF) championship held in Singapore. Malaysia lost to Thailand (1-0) in the final.
Seasoned hands Azman Adnan, Khairul Azman Mohd, Zami Mohd Noor, Rizal Sukiman and Azmi Mohamed were among the established names in that squad.
It was a game Malaysia had expected to win after having cruised past Vietnam (1-0) and the Phillipines (4-0) in the earlier group fixtures. In the end it was a disaster.
For Wan Jamak it was a bitter pill to swallow. He called it quits 24 hours later. The FA of Malaysia (FAM), in a desperate move, disbanded the national team.
What can be expected of Laos, this time?
It is anyone’s guess. The record shows that minnows Laos have been the whipping boys in the AFF since 1996 having managed only two wins (one was the famous win over Malaysia) in the competition proper – out of the total 27 games played in the group stages.
This time, they are drawn with Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore in Group B. In fact, Laos made it from the qualifying tournament after finishing runner-up behind Myanmar last month.
Wan Jamak said that the standard of the game in the Asean region has improved and added that it would be a mistake to write off any team in the competition.
“We are the defending champions and will be playing at home but that doesn’t mean that we will have it easy,” warned Wan Jamak.

Football: Indonesia Ready for East Timor

As the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup draws near, Indonesia coach Nil Maizar expects players to give their all, starting with Wednesday’s exhibition match against East Timor at Gelora Bung Karno in South Jakarta.

Only 22 of the 23 players in the national squad will make it to the tournament, with the coach expected to announce the final list for the cup after Friday’s match against Cameroon at the same stadium.

“These two games will be a good build up for us before playing in the tournament [the AFF Cup] and I hope all players keep showing their best,” the 42-year-old Nil said on Tuesday. “I will announce the final roster after the match against Cameroon.”

These will be the last warm-up games for the Merah Putih before it goes to Kuala Lumpur to play in Group B of the AFF Cup, where it will be up against Laos, Singapore and Malaysia. The Group A draw, featuring Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar, will compete in Bangkok.

The top two teams from each group will enter the last-four round of the biennial regional tournament.

Nil said he expected the team to beat East Timor, which would give it a morale boost in the lead-up to the AFF Cup.

Indonesia’s last victory in an international match was a 5-0 defeat of minnows Brunei Darussalam in Bandar Seri Begawan in September, which ended the squad’s 13-match losing streak.

Spain ended Thailand's campaign at the 2012 Futsal World Cup with a 7-1 victory

Hosts were outgunned by title favourites

Spain ended Thailand's campaign at the 2012 Futsal World Cup with a 7-1 victory at Nimibutr Gymnasium last night.

Two-time world champions Spain scored seven unanswered goals before Kritsada Wongkaeo, who returned from suspension, grabbed a consolation goal for the hosts in the final moments.
Spain set up a quarter-final clash with Russia or the Czech Republic who meet in the second round today.
The Spaniards have now won all their six meetings with Thailand including 8-0 and 6-4 wins in Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima in warm-up games in August.
In their first ever competitive contest last night, the European champions proved too strong for the Thais, who did well in the opening stages.
Thailand were cheered on by a vocal crowd but it couldn't prevent them falling behind after nine minutes, with Torras rounding off a counter-attack.
This appeared to spark the War Elephants into life, testing Spain a number of times, but Torras was on hand to double the lead before half-time, converting a cross at the far post.
In the second half, the Spaniards were ruthless and scored five more goals before Kritsada salvaged some pride for the hosts just one minute to go.
He fired in to the bottom right-hand corner of Spain's net. The Thai players and supporters celebrated as if they had won the game and duly left the tournament on the back of a priceless moment for them.
It was Thailand's first ever second-round match in four World Cup appearances.
''The difference today between Spain and Thailand is that when you take too many risks your opponent will score,'' Thailand coach Victor Hermans said. ''We had some chances when it was 0-0 but we failed to capitalise and against teams like Spain you must take the chances you have. In the second half we asked the players to score the first goal and make it 2-1 but instead we conceded more goals.
''Our team spirit is good and the only thing we need is experience. But we have improved considerably.''
The Dutch coach, whose contract with Thailand ends in 2014, said he would go upcountry to help teach futbal in rural areas.
Spain coach Venancio Lopez was pleased with his side's performance but al;so paid tribute to the hosts.
''We played a great match using our head properly. It could have been a very difficult game but we made it look easy,'' Lopez said.
''I think that the key to winning was scoring the third and fourth goal in the second half. I want to congratulate Thailand because they decided to play offensive football and that is very good for futsal.''

FBT has pledged to support LFF with sporting apparel and equipment worth 16,000,000 (16 Million) Baht, equipping mainly the federation’s national senior and national youth teams.
FBT exports to over 40 countries worldwide, has over 2,800 employees and had an annual turnover of more than US$40 million in 2011.

With this sponsorship, we at FBT hope to be able to help improve the quality of football for the national teams, and bring pride to the Lao people,” said Mr Monchai Chokephaibulkit, Deputy Managing Director of FBT.
LFF is confident that such a partnership with an international sports brand will set it on the right path of developing a good image.
“We are thankful to have FBT’s support. Such modern, well-designed apparel and quality equipment will certainly enhance our professional image as a national sports body,” said Dr Xaybandith Rasphone, General Secretary of LFF.

: Kimura Has To Find Solution And Options

Laos head coach Kimura Has To Find Solution And Options

VIENTIANE (1 Nov 2012) – With slightly over three weeks to go to their first game of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, Laos will have to find the right formula to make sure that they are not at the championship just to make up the numbers.
And that responsibility falls to none other than Laos chief coach Kokichi Kimura (extreme left in pix), who took over responsibility at the helm barely three months ago.
The team, which made the cut to the final round of the meet by virtue of finishing second at the qualifiers last month, was laid bare at the recent VFF Cup where they finished last in the four-team championship.
