Myanmar crushes Vietnam to win football bronze

Posted : 22 Nov 2011 11:18:34

Jakarta (UR): Myanmar beat Vietnam 4-1 in the third place playoff match in the football competition of the 26th SEA Games in Jakarta on Monday to win bronze.
The goals came through Kyaw Zeyar Win in the 33rd and 54th minutes, Kyam Ko Ko in the 83rd minutes and an own goal by Vietnamese defender Ngo Hoang Thinh. Vietnam’s only goal was scored by Lam Anh Quang
Myanmar focused on defending and quick counterattacks, with effective long balls into Vietnamese territory. This strategy quickly extinguished Vietnam’s aggressive attacking from both wings.
Vietnam got its first chance at goal in the ninth minute, but Nguyen Van Quyet’s shot from inside the goal area was blocked by goalkeeper Thiha Sthu. Vietnam was in control of the game but found it difficult to get past the Myanmar defense.
Myanmar’s rigid defense and long passes on the counterattack often saw Kyam Ko Ko and Kyam Zeyar caught offside.
The opening goal came in 34th minute through Kyam Zeyar after he picked up on a free kick to slot the ball home.
Vietnam kept on attacking and tried to equalize before the break, leaving gaps in the defense that Myanmar’s Yan Aung Kyamattempted to capitalize on, but was blocked by goalkeeper Nguyen Tuan Manh.
Into the second half, Myanmar switched gears to take control of the game. Their attacking game led to a number of chances that went begging.
The second goal came in the 54th minute through Kyam Zeyar Win. Myanmar then found itself leading 3-0 after an own goal byNgo Hoang Thinh, who was looking to clear the ball but sent it into his own net.
Not content with the three-goal lead, Myanmar put a fourth on the board through its top scorer Kyaw Ko Ko in the 83rd minute.
Vietnam’s only goal came in the 88th minute through substitute Lam Anh Quang, but it was too little too late.

SEA GAMES 2011: VIETNAM BEAT LAOS TO WIN GROUP B

SEA GAMES 2011: VIETNAM BEAT LAOS TO WIN GROUP B
LEBAK BULUS (17 Nov 2011) – Vietnam came back from a goal down to beat Laos 3-1 at the Lebak Bulus Stadium this afternoon to make sure that they finished the preliminary round of the men’s football event at the top of Group B – ahead of Myanmar.
At the end of the five matches in the group, both Vietnam and Myanmar are on the same 13 points although the former finished at the top due to better goal difference.
But this evening, Vietnam did not have the best of start when as early as the fourth minute, they fell behind when Keoviengpheth Lithideth picked up a cross from the left before blasting the ball past keeper Tran Buu Ngo to give Laos the surprise lead.
In the seventh minute, Khonekham had the chance to double Laos’ lead but he took too long for the finish while Vietnam replied through Le Van Thanh but his shot narrowly missed the intended target.
In the 16th minute, the Vietnamese were punished when they lost Nguyen Thanh Long Giang to a red card. But to be fair, Vietnam did not lose hope where they still maintained their composure to press the Laotian defence.
And just before the end of the first half, a one timer from Le Van Thang came off the crossbar for the score to stand at 1-0 to Laos’ advantage.
It was Laos who began stronger in the second half where after picking up a cross from the centre of the park, captain Lamnao Singto shot straight to Buu Ngoc instead.
That failure to take score gave Vietnam the confidence to push forward and in the 62ndminute, Hoang Dinh Tung gave Vietnam the all-important equalizer when he took advantage of a melee inside the Laos goal to stab the ball home. Seven minutes later, Laos fell further behind when Nguyen Van Quyet beat Laos keeper Sourasay Keosanvandeng for a 2-1 lead.
In the 77th minute, the frustration was obvious on Laos when they lost Lamnao to a red card for an altercation against Vietnam midfielder Chu Ngoc Anh. A missed penalty some ten minutes later did not prevent Vietnam from scoring their third goal in the game when Van Quyet beat the offside trap to beat Sourasay for the third time

MYANMAR LEAD GROUP B FOR NOW

LEBAK BULUS (15 Nov 2011) – Myanmar delivered what was expected of them this afternoon at the Lebak Bulus Stadium – scoring a close 1-0 win over Timor Leste to ensure that they took control of Group B at least for the next 48 hours.
With current group leaders Vietnam on the same ten points, there was a need for Myanmar to win the full points against Timor so as to give them the chance of finishing at the top of the group.
Vietnam still have match to play for where they will take on Laos in the final group game against Laos in two days.
With the game having no real consequence for Timor other than to salvage battered pride, the return of striker Ribeiro Murilo at least gave the team more presence upfront.
In the fifth minute, Murilo’s cross was perfectly connected by Diogo Rangel at the far post but the goal was called for offside. The game did not actually took after that as Myanmar were just passing the ball around and were not willing to commit too much.
It was not until the game reached the 34th minute mark that Myanmar finally made an impression when Mai Aih Naing cut in from the left to beat marker Emanuel Abel before shooting past Timor keeper Carlos Emerson at the near post for the lead.
Two minutes later, Alan Pinheiro worked hard to break through the Myanmar defence but his shot came off the crossbar instead. Not too long afterwards Murilo, who had just returned from suspension, picked up a yellow card for arguing with referee Fahad Alkassar from the UAE.
Min Min Thu then had a double chance but his first effort was closed down by a recovering defender while his second try came off the cross bar instead.
Diogo Rangel then finished the first half for Timor with a grounder which narrowly missed the upright.
The second half did not actually change the pace of the game although Myanmar did concede several free kicks at the edge of their box. The closest was a well taken shot from Pinheiro, but Myanmar Kyaw Zin Htet was just well placed.
Several minutes later, another attempt from Pinheiro went well wide.

AFC world cup 2014 Qualifying, Singapore Vs China

Only China enter this match with the dream of qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil still intact. Singapore ended any slim chance of progress with a 2-0 defeat to group leaders Jordan in Amman on Friday. But even China's hopes of clinching the runners-up slot in Group A remain bleak, with results elsewhere needed to go in their favour. Nevertheless, the match in itself should be a heated affair, with Singapore's sizeable Chinese migrant population expected to lend vocal support to the visitors.
Singapore's squad has been depleted with a number of key players involved in the concurrent staging of the 2011 South-East Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia. Hariss Harun, Safuwan Bahrudin and Izwan Mahbud, who all started the match in September, are part of the Singapore Under-23 team competing in the SEA Games.
China, meanwhile, will have to contend with the absence of Linpeng Zhang. The defender will be suspended after being shown a straight red card against Iraq in his previous match for bringing down Younis Mahmoud, who was through on goal.

SEA GAMES 2011: LAMNAO HEADS TOP GOALSCORERS’ LIST FOR NOW

JAKARTA (14 Nov 2011) – Laos might have been out of contention for a place in the next round of the SEA Games this year but that has not stopped striker Lamnao Singto from leading the top goal scorers list – at least for the moment at least.

After four matches in Group B, the nippy and industrious Lamnao has already scored six goals, the last two goals being those he scored against Timor Leste last night.

“It has been a tough competition for sure, full of ups and down,” said Lamnao (pix).

“We did not start very well and it was disappointing to lose some games the way we did. There’s no excuse for it especially when it is considered that we were the semi-finalists at the last SEA Games.

Laos thrash Timor Leste 3:0 and win 1st Game

SEA GAMES 2011: LAOS PICK UP FIRST ALBEIT LATE WIN

SEA GAMES 2011: LAOS PICK UP FIRST ALBEIT LATE WIN
LEBAK BULUS (13 Nov 2011) – Laos picked up their first albeit late win in Group B when they overcame Timor Leste 3-0 in the match that was played at the Lebak Bulus Stadium this evening.
Playing without the influential Albeiro Murilo, who has been suspended, was telling on the Timorese and they struggled to push forward and put consistent pressure on the Laotian defence.
Following from the shock last minute defeat to the Philippines in their previous match, Laos were a lot more determined and compact this time round.
Paseutsack Soulivong gave Laos the lead in the 21st minute before captain  Lamnoa Singto then added the second goal on 42 minutes before adding his second and Laos’ third a minute to the end with a well taken penalty.

U23 Azkals nip Laos, 3-2, keep semis hopes alive | Inquirer Sports

Don’t count the Philippine U23 Azkals out just yet in the 26th Southeast Asian Games.
Substitute Joshua Beloya struck twice inside the final four minutes as the Philippines kept its flickering semifinal hopes alive after a pulsating 3-2 win over Laos Friday night at the Lebak Bulus Stadium in Jakarta.
The Bacolod-based Beloya, who grew up in Switzerland, scored on a tap-in in the 90th minute before completing the fightback with a clinical finish three minutes into injury time as the Under-23 Azkals registered their first victory of the tournament after back-to-back losses.
“We wanted to show that we have a team that’s willing to fight for the country for more than 90 minutes. The players showed they are more than just the Manny Otts, Jason de Jongs, but they are Filipinos,” said Palami, who gave a lively pep talk with the team.
With the victory, the Azkals still have an outside chance of making the semifinals with three points, although they would need to beat Myanmar and Brunei in their remaining matches and hope that a confluence of events like Vietnam losing to Brunei and Myanmar and Timor Leste play to a draw to advance to the medal round. The Azkals also hope that Laos beats Timor Leste.
“We know our chances of making it (to semifinals) are slim but what is important is that we come out and play with pride and show that never-say-die spirit the team is known for in our last two matches,” Palami added.
Much of the Under-23 Azkals’ campaign has been littered with heartbreak, but for four enthralling minutes Friday night, Beloya gave them something to cheer about and breathed life to the Azkals’ flatlining bid.
The Azkals trailed 1-2 and were down to 10 men when Beloya, born to an American father and a Filipino mother, delivered the sensational goals.
Beloya equalized after finishing off a flowing move that started with a reverse pass from OJ Porteria at midfield. Porteria’s pass released Mark Hartmann on the right and he set up Beloya for the easiest of goals.
Growing in confidence, the Azkals completed their comeback with Beloya again on the firing end.
Showing the skills he honed while playing for the youth team of FC Zurich and with Negros Occidental in the UNder-23 Championship, Beloya latched unto a long ball and displayed great composure to hold off his defender before firing past the Laos keeper.
Manny Ott opened the scoring for the Azkals in the seventh minute, combining well with Jason de Jong and Jinggoy Valmayor to score with a side-footed finish just inside the box.
But the Laotians carved up plenty of chances on the right flank and they were rewarded in the 38th minute with Lamnao Singtao’s close-range strike.
Singtao put the Laotians in front, 2-1, three minutes into the second half, completing a quick counter attack with a cool finish against Azkals keeper Roland Muller after Jacques Van Bossche’s pass was intercepted at midfield.
The Azkals were reduced to 10 men when Patrick Hinrichsen picked up a second yellow card in the space of less than 10 minutes in the second half.
The buildup to the match actually centered on the sudden departure of Azkals skipper Matthew Hartmann who quit the team and returned to Manila Thursday.
Hartmann told the Inquirer that it was his decision – not the coaches – to pull out of the squad because “circumstances gave him no choice but to leave.” The Fil-British player did not elaborate.
In Hartmann’s absence, Jason De Jong and Manny Ott were selected co-captains for the Laos match, which marked the fourth meeting between the two countries.
The Philippines has lost all three matches against Laos in the SEA Games the last coming in 1999 when the Filipinos, despite scoring the first goal through Norman Fegidero, bowed, 2-3, in Brunei.
And just when it looked like the Filipinos were headed to football oblivion in these SEA Games, Beloya gave them a ray of hope with two late goals

First win for PHL in SEA games

The U23 Azkals notched its first win in the 26th South East Asian games in Indonesia edging Laos 3-2 Friday.

Manny Ott struck early scoring the first goal for the Philippines at the 7th minute but Laos was able to equalize before halftime scoring a goal in the 38th minute.

Laos scored the first goal in the 2nd half but the Philippines played well as a team and rallied late in the game as Beloya scored 2 more goals to push the Philippines ahead for good. - Rodneil Quiteles/OMG, GMA News

Late Malaysia winner stuns Thailand (09/11/2011)

Late Malaysia winner stuns Thailand (09/11/2011)

Thailand are in danger of elimination after losing 2-1 to Malaysia in their opening match at the 26th SEA Games yesterday.

Bakhtiar Baddrol opened the scoring for Malaysia after 24 minutes and Ramlan Izzaq Faris hit the winner for the defending champions in the 85th minute after Natarid Thammroddodpon fired an equaliser for the Thais five minutes earlier.

In fact, Thailand played badly in every department and could have lost by a much bigger had Malaysia's forwards been sharper in the Group A encounter at the Gelora Bung Karno (Senayan) stadium.

Malaysia also defeated the Thais 2-1 in the last group game at the 2009 Games in Laos as the eight-time defending champions Thailand were eliminated in the first round for the first time for decades.

If Thailand fail to get past the group stage in Indonesia, it will be the first time in Games history that they suffer two consecutive early exits.

And that is not impossible as they still have to play hosts Indonesia and Singapore, as well as minnows Cambodia.

"I don't know what happened to my players. They played much below their standard," Thailand coach Prapol Pongpanich said after yesterday's match.

Thailand manager Kasem Jariyawatwong chose to look on the bright side saying that "we still have three matches to play."

But he admitted that getting past the first round was not easy. "We have no choice, we have to win the remaining three games," he said.

Kasem said Thailand had to change their tactics after falling behind and when they got an equaliser he thought the momentum was on Thailand's side but it turned out to be the other way round.

Thailand's defenders, particularly Sutjarit Jantakol and Chalemsak Kaewsooktae, were a weak link while goalkeeper Ukrit Wongmeema looked shaky.

The Thais got off to a lively start but soon ran out of sorts as the Malaysians looked more dangerous and tormented the Thai rearguard throughout the match.

A large number of Thai fans at home were infuriated by the poor performance and heavily criticised the team on websites and in radio programmes.

"It would be better for you to return home to help the flood victims," said a fan in a radio programme.

"You should stop talking about winning the title if you could only play like this," a fan wrote on a website.

In Group A, Malaysia and Singapore have four points each from two games. Indonesia have three points from one match, while Thailand and Cambodia are still looking for their first point.

The top two teams from each of the two groups advance to the semi-finals.

Thailand play Cambodia tomorrow at 5pm.

Laos aim to repeat 2009 success

3 November 2011

ບໍ່ແມ່ນນຂີ້ໂມ້ບໍທ່ານພີເຕີ???

Laos coach Hans-Peter Schaller believes his team can spring a surprise or two at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will take place in Indonesia.
Laos coach Hans-Peter Schaller believes his team can spring a surprise or two at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will take place in Indonesia.
Austrian national Schaller wants the team to repeat their achievements in the 2009 edition of the SEA Games where they finished fourth.
"It's not an easy group. In the last SEA Games, we occupied the fourth position, but it will not be easy to do that again," Schaller told Kompas Bola.
"We're not the favourites. However, we will strive to repeat the achievement of two years ago."
Several trials have been done to prepare the team, including some in Malaysia. Schaller admitted that his team had been prepared for two months to deal with this event.
"We cannot wait to face the first match against Myanmar. The expectancy of Laos public to us must be very high. However, the new results will be answered tomorrow," he said.
Laos are in Group B alongside Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines, Brunei and Timor Leste and will play their first game against Myanmar on Thursday.

LEBAK BULUS (9 Nov 2011) – Myanmar took a big step for a place in the semi-finals of men’s football at the SEA Games this year when they overcame Brunei 4-0 in the match that was played at the Lebak Bulus Stadium.
With the win, Myanmar have picked up seven points from two wins and a draw – thus replacing Timor Leste at the top of the table albeit momentarily as the Timorese will take on Vietnam in the second game of the day.

SEA GAMES 2011: LAOS HOLD TEN MAN BRUNEI

SEA GAMES 2011: LAOS HOLD TEN MAN BRUNEI
LEBAK BULUS (7 Nov 2011) – Laos seem to find it difficult to play against teams with ten men and tonight, they were lucky not to concede a second loss in the competition when they held Brunei to a 2-2 draw at the Lebak Bulus Stadium.
On the first match day of Group B the Laotians, the 2009 semi-finalists failed to take advantage of Myanmar playing with ten men, when they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat.
And tonight, Brunei’s hopes of picking up their first win was stuttered as early as the 15thminute when defender Reduan Petara was red carded by Indonesian referee Oki Putra for a foul on Laos captain Lamnao Singto.

SEA GAMES 2011: BRUNEI NEED TO POLISH GAME; LAOS AIM FOR THE REBOUND

JAKARTA (7 Nov 2011) – Brunei will need to polish up their game if they are serious about making the next round while for Laos, they will have to rebound from the loss they suffered from their first match to Myanmar.
Brunei might have lost their first game in the group, but they showed that despite being out of it for a decade – their last participation in SEA Games football was back in 2001 – and also the ban by FIFA in the last two years, they still know how to play football.
